Haitian steel drum art is made by burning the residue out of a steel oil drum, flattening it, and then chiseling the design. Artist Georges Liataud began this art form in the late 1950's and many talented sculptors have since followed.
These sculptures are made to be used inside or outside. However, the painted ones should remain indoors. When kept outside, they eventually begin to turn a beautiful patina.
